The Early Days
Dice Monkey began as a passion project within the RPG Blogger’s Network, a lively community where enthusiasts shared ideas, strategies, and stories about role-playing games. In its early days, the blog focused on session recaps, tips for new GMs, and deep dives into favorite games like Star Wars d20 and Dungeons & Dragons 4e. These foundational posts not only attracted a following but also established Dice Monkey as a source of engaging content. As the years have passed, many blogs from the RPG Blogger’s Network era have vanished or become inactive, making Dice Monkey’s longevity even more notable.
Expanding Horizons
As the blog grew, so did its scope. We began to explore a wider variety of games, from mainstream hits to indie gems, reflecting the expanding universe of tabletop RPGs. Special series on adapting popular media into RPG settings, such as our detailed guides on bringing cinematic universes into the gaming table, became fan favorites. These creative crossovers showcased the versatility of RPG mechanics and helped readers tailor their gaming experiences to match their interests.
GenCon 2010
One of the standout moments in the history of Dice Monkey was attending GenCon 2010 with a media pass. This opportunity not only allowed for firsthand experiences of the latest in tabletop gaming but also for meeting and interacting with other enthusiasts and creators in the industry. I particularly loved meeting up with Michael Wolf of Stargazer’s World, as well as Enrique from NewbieDM. Covering the event brought new insights and content to the blog, further cementing Dice Monkey’s role in the broader gaming community.

One of the most rewarding aspects of running Dice Monkey has been the community that’s grown around it. Through comments, guest posts, and collaborations, we’ve connected with countless gamers and creators who have enriched the blog with their diverse perspectives and experiences. I’ve gotten to play in a lot of one-shots and campaigns with others I met through the site.
