2024 D&D Rulebooks Will Be Available Through Creative Commons
Heads up, dungeon delvers and dragon slayers! Big news has just rolled out: the Dungeons & Dragons team has announced some updates for the Systems Reference Document (SRD). Let’s dive into what this means for the D&D community.
The latest SRD update is set to roll out alongside the freshly revised core rulebooks slated for release through 2024 and early 2025. The updated Player’s Handbook is dropping in September 2024, followed by the Dungeon Master’s Guide in November 2024, and finally, the Monster Manual in February 2025. SRD 5.2 will be hot on the heels of these releases, packed with all the updated content from these books.
One of the best bits about the SRD 5.2 is its release under a Creative Commons License (CC-BY-4.0), which is a big win for creators. This move ensures that the game remains not only accessible but also modifiable by the community, fostering a culture of sharing and innovation. The Creative Commons setup is a gold standard for open-source content, meaning once it’s out there, it’s out there for good—no take-backs from Wizards of the Coast.
SRD 5.2 will be localized across all supported languages following the release of the core rulebooks in those languages. This means no matter where you are, you’ll have access to the latest in D&D in your mother tongue.
This version still adheres to the fifth edition’s framework but incorporates updates from the upcoming rulebooks. This ensures that your existing fifth edition-compatible products will remain just that—compatible.
