Games Workshop’s New Middle Earth Minis are a Great Deal
I’m really impressed with GW’s offerings for their new boxed sets, and wanted to dive into how inexpensive they are. Now’s the perfect time to get into the Middle Earth Strategy Battle Game.
Let’s start with the Battle of Osgiliath.
Let’s ignore the dice, measurement tools, and tokens, and focus on the rulebook and all the plastic. This boxed set retails at $210, but features a WHOLE LOT more.
The rules manual alone is $60 (and currently out of stock). The forces of good include 24 troops (12 Warriors of Minas Tirith, 12 Rangers of Gondor). A box of 24 of either of these is $45. They’re essentially including one sprue of each instead of the two sprues you get in a box, so we’re going with $45 total on those. There are three heroes, Faramir, Madril, Damrod. A boxed set of 3 hero models tends to go for around $40 (see Gandalf & Pippin here), meaning that the forces of good are around $85 in cost total.
The forces of evil are: 24 Morannon Orcs ($45), one Mordor Troll ($45), and Gothmog, another new model. Since there’s a mounted and unmounted version, let’s use Theoden as an example, and assume he’s $35. That’s $125 for the evil side.
But that’s not all!
Using the Ruins of Middle Earth as a base, the two Gondor Ruins sets would be $45 each, meaning $90.
So the grand total of this set is: $360, and it all costs $210. That’s a FANTASTIC deal.
Now let’s look at the Battlehosts. I’m going to look at just one, because basically all of them should be roughly the same value.
The Mordor Battlehost (and all others) are an INCREDIBLE $85. The box comes with 24 Mordor Orcs ($45), 6 Warg Riders ($42), and the Witch King of Angmar on foot and mounted ($35). That’s $122 of models for only $85. That’s an incredible price. You’re getting a whole battle host for less than the cost of two units of models.
The only other warhost releasing right now is Minas Tirith, but Rohan and Isengard are coming soon.
Like I said, now’s the BEST time to get into MESBG. This IS just a blatant ploy to get more people I know into the game, because it really is fantastic.
