Game Accessory: TableWar F.A.T. Mats
I’ve been acquiring a lot of village terrain as of late, and wanted to pick up a mat that would allow me to set up everything together and function as a village for Middle Earth Minis, Mordheim, Age of Sigmar, or DnD.
I knew I wanted a 3×3 mat, and I wanted one with a fabric and rubber material. I had found some cool looking ones online that were just printed on vinyl, and I knew that’s not what I wanted.
That led me to TableWar. I’m not an affiliate, so any links here are just my own.
TableWar makes the Fast Action Tablescape (F.A.T.) mats, which come in a huge variety of sizes, as well as some double-sided mats.
After browsing through all the mats, I liked both the dungeon floor and cobbletown mats, and was excited to see there was a double-sided version of the two. They were listed as out of stock, but after contacting them, they managed to track down a few. Their customer service and reply time on email was excellent.
It was less than a week before the mat arrived, so let’s take a look.
First off, all mats arrive in a really nice carrying case. It has a shoulder strap as well as a strap on the top so you could hang it on some pegboard in your game room. There’s also a luggage tag that lists exactly what’s in the bag, so you can easily identify it if you have multiple bags.
There’s extra room in the bag, so if you’re taking it somewhere, you could toss in a gridded battle mat if you want.
The mat itself is fantastic quality. The mouse pad-like structure is thinner than I was expecting, but still very nice. The artwork is detailed and realistic. Both sides look amazing. The dungeon side works well for a crowded city street, while the cobbletown side will work well for a village square.
One thing I really like is that the company logo is on the mat, but it’s very small. I’ve seen mats from other companies that are MASSIVE, and I like that this one is small and out of the way in the corner.
The mat handles bouncing dice well. By the rubber not being very thick, it doesn’t make the dice bounce too much, but it still softens the sound of the die.
I threw down a few pieces of terrain, and they looked fantastic, blending right in.
I’m really pleased with my purchase. I’m hoping to pick up their Alpine and Grassy Plains at some point in the future. Until the end of the month, they’re running a Black November sale, so their F.A.T. mats are 20% off.
