Games Workshop Announces New Core Set for Lord of the Rings Minis
At their big Forge World and Specialist Games Open Day at Warhammer World, Games Workshop announced their next big release for the Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game, including that it’s officially now known as the Middle-Earth Strategy Battle Game rather than the two previous names it had, The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Pretty nifty new logo, too.
The new core set for their new rules is Battle of Pelennor Fields, the cataclysmic showdown at the gates of Minas Tirith.
According to their post at Warhammer Community:
The armies feature a whopping 84 Citadel miniatures – including a brand new version of Theoden, King of Rohan on foot and horseback. This model is the first in what will be a range of new plastic characters for the setting. The model is incredibly detailed – a faithful depiction of the king, during his glorious last charge.
Alongside Theoden ride 12 Riders and Warriors of Rohan and 20 Warriors of the Dead. Against them stand no fewer than 36 Morannon Orcs, a Mordor Troll and The Witch-king of Angmar atop a Fell Beast. Also included, are all the various gaming accessories you’d expect – dice, range-rulers (themed to each army), tokens, and most importantly of all – a brand new 208-page edition of the rules.
I was planning on getting some Rohirrim soon, so this should be a great way to bolster my forces.
The set releases in August, so I have about a month to start figuring out what from my old 40k stuff I can sell off to pick this one up.
