Previously, I had mentioned splicing genres together to create interesting new settings. I’d like to cover, in detail, some different mashups of various settings and see what we end up with.
Today’s entry: Sci-Fi/Super Heroes.
Imagine a setting where the Solar system has been fully populated, with not just colonies, but whole cities and metropolises across the planets and moons. The defense forces of the system against threats both within and beyond are not starfighters, as one would think, but manned suits, looking a lot like Iron Man suits, though perhaps more like the “Hammeroids” in Iron Man 2.
The great thing is, if you’re using a super hero setting to run this, is that you just make sure everyone takes at least a little armor, and from there, every suit could be different. One character might shoot energy, while another fires missiles, while another is entirely close combat based. These fearless heroes would soar through the black, battling not only other iron man-type suits, but also possibly alien invasions and the like. They could also get sent out to scout out potential mining operations on asteroids and the like, as well.
That’s about all for now. What do you think? Let me know if you give this a try in your game.
Number of Views :2254Last night, I ran my first game of Mouse Guard ever, since receiving the book for Christmas. The morning of, Bridget suggested that since Samaira (one of our regular players) would be coming over that evening, perhaps I could run a little Mouse Guard. I was very excited, and dug up all [...]

Number of Views :750I’m the only person in the group who owns any game books. This has become apparent in my 10 years of playing. Now, in my last group (the one that just split), one other guy owned every single book as well, but in every previous group, I’ve been the one and only [...]

Number of Views :653A few days back, I posted about Mini-Campaigns, and got some really great responses. One came from someone with the name Aoi, but they didn’t leave a website, so I’m not sure if they’re a blogger or not. Either way, they had some great points to make. Here it is, and I’ll [...]

Number of Views :982It appears that Virginia Nibbelink has lost her battle with cancer. Virginia is the wife of Steve Nibbelink, known to the RPG Blogger community as VulcanStev, and a mother of three. As a husband myself, I can’t imagine the pain Steve is going through right now. The Gamer Traveller, Daniel Perez has [...]
Number of Views :5743Having just seen Iron Man 2 yesterday, (Spoiler-free review: better than Iron Man, and doesn’t ever feel like it’s dragging. It incorporates a ton of greater Marvel universe stuff, and you NEED to stick around after the credits) I’ve been thinking about running a mini-campaign in the Marvel universe once I move. [...]

I found a post up online titled “Spells Not Worth Memorizing.” Here it is, for your amusement. 1 Acid Trip 2 Affect Abnormal Fires 3 Affect Normal Foyers 4 Air Breathing (land-dwellers [...]

Number of Views :1450Penny Arcade has made another fantastic series in “Lookouts: A Boy Must Learn”. In the previous Lookouts comic they did, they showed how dangerous the Eryewood is. Now, we actually see it as the boys train to battle the Winter King, an awesome creature I’d love to see the stats for. This [...]
Number of Views :675This is something I’ve heard discussed by Chatty in the past, and I’m sure a few other RPG Bloggers have done it as well: Mini-Campaigns. I was thinking about the long, drawn out DnD campaigns that have been run by my group over the last couple of years: Points of Light, Forgotten [...]
