A Year in Review

It’s been a busy year for me! I wanted to do a 2023 retrospective, and take a look at goals I’d like to have for 2024.

RPGs

In February of this year, I launched my Kickstarter for The Doom of Blackwinter, an adventure for FOUR different game systems. It’s been a long, long process, longer than I had predicted. My current hope is to have the initial goal complete by February of 2024, then get the stretch goals complete.

I started a Star Trek Adventures campaign with the family. We played about 5 sessions over the last 9 months due to scheduling, and we’re looking at switching the system over to Mothership, while still playing Star Trek.

My Star Wars Darkstryder campaign, which I’ve been running since last year, had to switch over to online in November, and we got a bunch of new players! Only one session before Christmas break kicked in, but heading into 2024, I can’t wait to keep playing.

Wargaming

I started on Eldar, Tyranid, Ork, and Dark Angels armies this year. That’s a lot of armies! I ended up selling my Tyranids, half painted, to the local shop, to pick up Legions Imperialis. Each time I thought about playing one of my armies, the Tyranids were always the last one I considered.

I’ve played a few games of 3rd edition 40k this year! Using my orks against my friend’s Demon Hunters army. It’s been a lot of fun going back to my roots, to my first wargame. I LOVE 3rd edition, and love playing it.

I painted up both Imperial and Rebel armies for Legion, but haven’t gotten a chance to play. I also painted up a whole starter set and two boxes for Star Wars Shatterpoint for a friend. I got to play it, and it was INCREDIBLE. It was a really great game. I loved it.

I’ve assembled the starter sets for two Flames of War, German and Soviet. I’ll be painting them in 2024. The German set is for my friend who I painted the Shatterpoint minis.

2024

I’ve been REALLY getting interested in playing One Page Rules. I haven’t gotten a chance to, but I’ve been making tons of lists and adapting it for all my different minis including A Song of Ice and Fire, and Joan of Arc.

I’m going to be playing more Warhammer 40k 3rd edition. My friend is rapidly building his army of Demon Hunters to fight my substantial Ork army, but I may need to build more Orks to reach our end-goal size.

I don’t plan on any 40k armies this year. There were too many last year. This year will be shoring up the armies I do have, expanding them a bit.

I’ll be painting more Shatterpoint I imagine, along with getting those Flames of War minis painted.

On the RPG front, as I said, wrapping up Doom of Blackwinter.

I also really want to be in a live-stream this year. I’d love to actually get to play something.

My son has expressed possible interest in a D&D campaign with his friends, so I may be running that.

Finally, I’d love to do another Kickstarter, but only if I’ve gotten things completely done on the writing front for it first, so I’m looking at perhaps Pointman Hacker Thief 2e.

That’s about all! What are your goals for 2024?
