The new Star Wars RPG, Edge of the Empire, arrived in the mail yesterday, and giddy with excitement. I was at work last night, so I only got to get a glimpse, but there’ll be a lot more to come about this. A lot of people have been concerned with the narrative dice mechanic, something I really enjoyed in the Warhammer Fantasy 3rd Edition RPG.
Star Wars was my first love. It’s how I got into RPGs, introduced by a friend through the WEG version. Soon after, I GMed for the first time using the first d20 rules. A little while back I began creating templates for the WEG d6 game, as seen here and here. I’m playing in a Star Wars PbP online right now, for the last few years. I love Star Wars, and it’s allowed me to tell some fantastic stories.
That’s why I’m so excited for the new edition. A brand new take on the setting I know and love? Excellent! A grittier view on life in the Outer Rim and beyond? Fantastic.
From what I’m hearing about it, it should be a really, really excellent game. I hope to share more with you as I delve into the Beta. I’ll be running some play-by-Skype games of it soon, as well.
