Marvel Heroic Roleplaying: Doctor Octopus, Rhino and Ultron

I’ve got a whole series talking about the elements of a Data File, but those will have to wait until next week. Over the last few days, I’ve been making some villains for the Marvel Heroic Roleplaying Game. I made four so far, including a Mob of Hand Ninjas, but haven’t gotten them converted into the format yet. I used PhotoShop to make them, and found the fonts that looked the closest to those seen in the rulebook, though they aren’t perfect matches. One tries one’s best.

Doctor Octopus was the easiest. I just stole elements from different Power Sets, and was good to go. Here he is. You can click to make it larger.

Rhino was a bit more work, as he needed a brand new mechanic for charging and not being able to stop. I hope I made an interesting rule for that. As above, you can click to make it bigger.

Finally, we have Ultron. He’s a pretty serious baddie, with an Adamantium body and a wide array of weapons. This villain is meant for the end of an event, someone the heroes have to work together to destroy.

Please let me know what you think of them, or if you think any changes should be made to them. They’re complete, as far as I can see, but I could always use feedback to help improve them. If there’s any significant changes needed, you’ll see them back on here soon with those changes.

    Just a quick head’s up. On the Ultron datafile you have the line “…step back effect die by -1 and influct as physical stress.”

    Needs to be “…step back effect die by -1 and *inflict* as physical stress.”

    Might want to make Ultron’s Adamantium Body trait Godlike Durability? Especially since you add Adamantium Shell as an SFX. The reason is that Durability actually comes with a few riders of its own.

    Not really sure what Rhino’s Durability Supremacy is…do you mean Godlike Durability?

    But that looks awesome!

    Hi,

    I understand Ultron being immune to emotional stress, but couldn’t he be affected by mental stress, i.e. trying to use logic to outwit him by finding logical fallacies in his arguments, etc?
    It seems that this is a classic comic book trope that works effectively against robots…

    You know, you’re right. What I was thinking when I said he was immune to Mental stress was getting attacked psychically. But yeah, he should be able to be outwitted. I may change that. I’ll read over it and see about changing it. Perhaps say “Immune to Emotional Stress and Psychic Powers.”

    Great stuff, Mark!

    Love Ultron’s stats, but would he qualify as a large-scale threat (they always play him up as a world-threatening bad guy in the comics) and thus have ‘Mob’-style multiple affiliation dice?

    Can’t wait to see the Hand Ninjas!

    Strangely, my group won’t be using Marvel Heroic Roleplaying to play a Marvel U game, as we’re all big DC fans! I’m planning a Batman, Inc. game, with the players playing new additions to Batman’s worldwide roster. I’ll be taking them on a journey through the New 52 DCU, though… :)

    The Marvel Heroic rules are simply the best superhero rules I’ve seen in years, and converting them to DC characters is a piece of cake (I’ve done a couple of rough versions of Batman and a few of the PC’s already).

    Can’t wait to play!

    These are great and exactly what I plan to do for my game. I like that the character generation rules have some flexibility and allow for imagination. Munchkins beware it calls you to the carpet.     And Mark, upon closer reading of the large-scale threat rules, I was wrong – they mean exactly that, large, building sized monsters, etc.

    Your datafiles are excellent. I will point out that you have, in a few places, abilities that use Plot points. Watcher characters don’t use those, they use dice from the doom pool instead.
