Burning Wheel Gold
Number of Views :2572Though I didn’t get to attend GenCon, I did still get some benefit from the Con.
My sister-in-law, Tricia, works for Fantasy Flight, and was down at the con to help do some demoing of their products. Andrew, my brother, decided to go down to GenCon for the final day, Sunday, and dropped his dog, Kuma, off with us to watch. He headed down, and when they came back that night, they had a gift for watching their dog all day.
Burning Wheel Gold.
Yes! I’ve been a huge fan of Burning Wheel since I picked it up over five years ago. Have I ever played in a game of it? No. But I absolutely adore the game, and would love to play it some day. I’ve gotten to run Mouse Guard plenty, but never its father.
I’ve thumbed through it, and I’ve got to say, it’s even more beautiful than its predecessor. The layout is pristine, and the art is top-notch greyscale. Absolutely stunning stuff.
The book weighs in at 593 pages, and looks like a bible. It’s the same size as the other Burning Wheel books, so it’ll fit right onto my shelf next to them.
Standouts include some quick and dirty rules for writing up NPCs, as well as a small roster of monsters, since he’s said that the Monster Burner isn’t quite fully compatible with the book.

The book on my desk at work.
From what I hear, the Fight mechanics have been cleaned up dramatically, so I look forward to reading those. I hope that wounds have been simplified as well, as that I found a bit confusing in the past.
I love the lifepath generation mechanics of the game, and am very, very excited to fully dive into the book and see what it has to offer.

The reason I balked at purchasing it is because my gaming circle just wouldn’t be down for it. I love BW’s lifepath creation, but things like the scripted combat and social parts are tough sells. I didn’t want to spend money on something that will unfortunately never get played.
I’m really curious to get your thoughts on the Fight! Mechanics now, though.
Hi! I love BWG, I´m playing a campaign over 20 sessions and we just gettibg starting it.
Zachary, buy the game, it´s cheap enough that you could read it and maybe play it with your friends.
