Anyone Up For Some 40k?

I’ve decided to get back into Warhammer 40,000 after a long hiatus. It’s been about five years or so since I rolled the dice across the blighted landscapes of the 41st Millennium, and I’ve missed it. I know it’s not really the “cool” game right now, what with Penny Arcade playing Warmachine right now, and the nigh-constant complaining about the latest iteration of the rules from many camps (and just as many defending the new rules).
But 40k was the basis for many of my high-school friendships. Some of my lifelong friends I met through the shared interest of 40k. Ben, Warhammer Guru, has never lost a game since his first two, and would constantly trounce us with his Imperial Guard armies, while Chris would charge headlong in with his Black Templars. My brother rounded out the mix with his Tau army, firing from a distance… but never quite enough to send Ben’s Guard packing. I, on the other hand, never could get an army entirely collected or painted, would switch from army to army, and as far as I recall, never won a game.
I had an unassembled Space Marine army consisting of a few squads of Marines, a Rhino or two, three Land Speeders, a bike squad and some Assault Marines, which I sold about a year and a half ago on Craigslist. I was living in Virginia, and literally no one I knew was playing. I couldn’t garner interest, and wasn’t close enough to any game stores, so up on the web it went. I probably should have charged much more than the $100 I did, because when a guy showed up to buy them, he thrust the money into my hand and ran, sure he must be stealing from me.
Now here I am, in Chicago, with a nearby FLGS and a local Games Workshop store. Ben was talking to me over Christmas about playing, and I began to get the itch. I’m going to dive back in.
I even found out in my first game session with the guys for Dark Sun that one of the guys just got a Tau army, and is painting it as we speak.
So what are my plans?
I’m going to begin collecting an Imperial Guard army, focusing on lots of troops with some sentinels and storm troopers intermingled, as well as bolstered by Commissars in the command units to keep the men in line.
Keep an eye out for my upcoming posts about the army.

I see i’m not the only one catching up the good “old” Warhammer 40.000!
I found some of my old Space Marine Squads not even packed out yet so i’m starting to make a Dark Angel chapter. I bought some new paint last thursday and is glueing some marines while writing this.

Keep up the spirit! :)

How do Tau armies win? How do all armies win? I shall tell you, my son. A Tau army that puts everything in the center cannot, should not, win. Because he shall be within range of every one of your guns. And he can’t afford to lose any Firewarriors. You can. A tau army that has split his force in half, has also lost, because you may piecemeal him one chunk at a time. A Tau army that has most of his army on one side, and little scorpion-tail detachment coming down the otherside? This is the threat.
Beware the Fish of Fury. Thorn seeks Hound. Eagle in the Silver. Await. Saint requisitions.
