Dark Sun Session 0: Character Creation

Last night, I got the brand new group together for the character creation session of our new Dark Sun campaign. Everyone began filtering in starting at 8:30, and by 9:30, everyone was there. I explained the background of Dark Sun to them, and the history of Tyr, where the action will be taking place.

Two of the players, besides Bridget and me, are very experienced, and so didn’t know what types of characters they wanted to make when they showed up, ready to play anything to fill in the group.

Boris, the guy who actually assembled the group, had never made a character before, so I helped him come up with his Dwarf Elemental Priest Cleric. His character comes from a distant desert monastery, gaining his powers from the elemental forces of the brutal desert.

Greg, who has played a lot of other RPGs, and only a little 4e, decided to be a Dwarf Templar Fighter, a member of the city guard.

Alex, an admitted power gamer, ended up deciding on a Dray Noble Adept Warlord, abandoning his noble upbringing to live amongst the people of Tyr.

Ed hopped onto his laptop and began building a Wilden Desert Nomad Druid with DDI, coming from the deep desert into civilization.

Finally, Bridget designed a hybrid Human Athasian Minstrel Rogue/Sorcerer-King Pact Warlock, a member of the Sorcerer-Kings harem, but secretly one of his private assassins.

I think everyone had a good time, talking and planning. We talked World of Warcraft, Warhammer 40,000, movies and music. I think it’ll be a good group, and look forward to our first session in two weeks. Keep an eye open for the next session!
