D&D Dungeon Tiles

I’m beginning to gather more and more Dungeon Tiles as the weeks go on. Two weeks ago, I picked up the Harrowed Halls, and yesterday I went over to Unique Gifts and Games and picked up the Arcane Towers set. Thus far, I’ve got about 6 or 7 of the sets. I’ve been told I should pick up at least two copies of each set, which I’ll probably do soon, once I’ve got one of each that are out right now.

I constructed the first few rooms of the Horned Hold from Thunderspire Labyrinth, just to see how it all worked out. I had to make some concessions, since I simply don’t have enough to truly build everything. You can see my results below.

I had to combine some rooms, and leave others absent. This is the area before you enter the blacksmith’s area. I put blue sticky-tack onto the pieces and mounted them onto black foamcore board to hold it up. It’s able to stand vertically without any of the pieces moving. It works out pretty well. I’ll have to give it a try in my next game. I’d like to get a lot more sets and build a mega dungeon with 5 or 6 pieces of foam core stuck together sometime.

How have all of you liked the dungeon tiles?

I just got my first Dungeon Tiles (Arcane Corridors) and I really love the potential that these tiles have. They don’t seem too expensive for the price that they come in and I really like quality of the hardstock.

I saw the new 3D tiles (from the Harrowing Halls, I believe) and can’t wait to my hands on those too! I’m glad that Wizards has decided to release a Master set which will hopefully have some of the out-of-print tiles.

Overall, I would definitely be spending my money on these tiles than DDI or a new 4E supplement.

Since even before we started playing 4e, I’ve used a battlemap to give my players at least a sense of what the situation looks like. I started using dungeon tiles in my last few sessions and have received a lot of positive feedback. They are especially handy when representing specific objects and structures. I love ‘em!
Now what they need to do is create a set that is just objects and “spell” effects, such as walls. Fingers crossed.
