FNG

In the military, there are a lot of acronyms, as many of you know. FNG is one known throughout the fleet, and probably throughout the rest of the armed forces as well.

Instead of belaboring what an FNG is, I’ll just tell you: It’s a F***ing New Guy.

But I’m not talking about that today. No, I’m talking about Friday Night Gaming.

While Bridget and I are still working at getting a group together, we’ve decided that, game group or not, we’re going to have Friday Night Gaming. I think this week, we’ll go ahead and assemble a Mouse Guard character for her, and perhaps run a little adventure.

Hopefully, this will get us into the groove of playing a regular game, whether we have a group or not.

Have any of you done this? Dedicated yourself to gaming on a certain night each week, whether or not the group gets together?

Yeah! A lot of times when the regulars can’t all make it on the designated night, we’ll use the opportunity to play a board game. Sometimes fantasy based like Talisman, sometimes not, like Acquire. We have a great time, and its good opportunity to try new games!

I’m the DM for my Friday night game. I put together the group almost two years ago, largely from folk who didn’t know one another. When I can’t play (normally the first Friday each month) the group takes a break. However, this week there’s a change in the normal schedule as my best friend is coming into town and I’m “taking the night off.” To my great delight, the group is soldiering on and playing something without me. Looks like Munchkin Quest is in the lead at the moment.

My gaming group meets every Tuesday. We always have some form of gaming, whether that be a board game or some roleplaying. Usually, everyone shows up for gaming since most of the group share the apartment we play at. However, if something comes up, we are always ready to play something at any given time.

We end up playing so much these days – one campaign run by Girlfriend DM, another run by me, an episodic Shadowrun game by Raymz (Polyhedral GM) and an infrequent Star Wars SAGA campaign by Ruffi (Polyhedral GM) that it’s hard to even mark any day as a regular gaming night! Sadder still is that I’m thinking about weaseling into a spot for a 4E Dark Sun game, and setting up a solo campaign for Girlfriend DM.
