Jurassic Park RPG: Something Has Survived…

Staying on my Savage Worlds kick I’m on at the moment, I was thinking about an awesome Jurassic Park RPG.

As some may know, they’re working on a new Jurassic Park comic, and that’s what got me thinking.

You would open the mini-campaign by encouraging the players to make a a character who would be the member of a National Geographic documentary crew. You wouldn’t tell them anything about Jurassic Park. Luckily, with the ease of Savage Worlds, everyone could have characters done within a half hour. From there, you tell them they’re being sent to an island in the South Pacific to film the local wildlife and bring back footage. They are dropped off by boat and told the boat will be back in a week.

As they roam the beach and begin to set everything up, they discover a wrecked jeep. Approaching it, they see a picture on the door of the car. It’s a red circle, with the black outline of a tyrannosaurus skeleton in the middle. At this point, a look of terror should fall over your players.

They are now stranded on Isla Nublar, the site of the first Jurassic Park movie, and won’t be able to leave for a week. Soon, a storm sets in, and they have to move inland.

This gives them the chance to explore the sets from the first film, including the old Velociraptor cage, the research labs (now ruined) and more.

I don’t know what would happen from there. The players would sort of run the story as they awaited the boat to return.

What do you think? It definitely fits into the pulp goodness of Savage Worlds, and could be a fantastic 3-4 session campaign.

Sounds good. Check out Reality Blurs website in their downloads for Ravaged Earth. There is an adventure featuring T Rex and a lost vale.

I’ve been looking for a new project to work of for awhile.. This has peaked my interest. The problem I see with this however is licensing issues – unless of course it was professionally done – but as a freelance game creator that is somewhat of a set back.

As a GM (using the GURPS system) I think this sounds like an excellent beginning to a JP campaign. I was very disappointed with JP3, and have always wished for another look at Isla Nublar; there was so much of the island we never got to see. I’ve started working through the new game, and while the gameplay is lacking, I’ve really enjoyed what they’ve done with the setting. It’s really piqued my interest in putting together a GURPS game around JP.

I’ve never touched the Savage Worlds system, but I might have to give it a look as well.
