That’s right, in less than a month, I’ll be packing up Bridget and Gabe and heading to the windy midwest. I’ll be working as webmaster for the Reserve Component Command there.
And I’ll be needing a gaming group.
Bridget and I realize we’ll probably be spending our first few months playing Descent with one another until we find a group we’re ready to play with.
We would prefer to play at our place, as it’s much easier with the little one, and we’re open to pretty much any game system. We’ve been playing 4e for about two years, so we’re ready to branch out and play some other stuff.
I’m more than happy to GM, and Bridget has GMed in the past (she said she’d GM a game of Stargate anytime.) I have personally run 4e, 3e, Star Wars (d20 and d60), Ninja Burger, Kobolds Ate My Baby, Spycraft, Usagi Yojimbo, Serenity, and d20 Modern. I know plenty more, but haven’t necessarily played in all the games I know.
We also like our drink, but don’t get trashed around the table. A couple of glasses of wine, perhaps, but we also understand if anyone we’re playing with doesn’t want to participate, or doesn’t want to be around that.
We like a lot of table talk. We use our gaming time as a socializing time as well, which we know not all gamers are looking for. That’s not to say the game falls completely by the wayside, but I would say at least 25% of our games are chatting about other things.
We like to game weekly, and usually play two and a half or three hours (though four hours, if able, would be a possibility.)
If anyone is interested, or know anyone interested, let me know!
Drop me a line … I run my AD&D (1e) game pretty close to Great Lakes – in Mt. Prospect. I’m always willing to try out new locations if they’re convenient. I’m pretty close to Great Lakes, about 30 min away. I also run games at my house now and then.
Funny — my son is about to join the Navy (May 5th) and he’ll be at Great Lakes till mid July or so.
I know you like to play at your place but I’m stuck in Chicago without a car so I’ll toss this out there on the off-chance it could work: I run a 4E D&D game on Friday nights and we will be losing a player (and subsequently the party’s only defender) at the end of the summer. I’ll need to fill that position when the time comes. Let me know if you’re interested in seeing how you fit with the group.
If you’re up for the trek into the city, I highly recommend the two game stores that opened in ’08: Black Sun Games and Chicagoland Games. Chicagoland has more D&D events, with open LFR every Monday and now D&D Encounters on Wednesdays. Black Sun Games has better parking options and a quieter back room if you can get it to yourself.
Good luck with the move and I hope you find a group!

Oh, forgot to mention, I would LOVE to play d6 Star Wars sometime. It was my first RPG experience but I’ve never been able to play a campaign. It remains elusive and unicorn-esque.

You’re about 15 minutes from Davey’s parents. We should play next time we are staying with them.
