Warhammer Fantasy RP 3e: Initial Review

Sorry it’s been a few days. I just haven’t found the time to post.
That being said, I’ve been spending a bit of time digging through my new WHFRP Core Set, and have some initial thoughts on the boxed set and system.
First off, I’m a fan. This is, by my initial reaction, a solid system, with some very interesting elements to it that make it a great product.
The box is the perfect size for everything in the box, plus any expansions that come out soon, as long as you remove the cardboard insert inside the box. It looks nice, but only gets in the way of all your pieces. I’ve taken a tackle box as per this post on Geekdo to hold all the fiddly bits, and it works quite well. Also, I’m working on some tuckboxes for the cards.
The rules seem just right for the feel of the setting. I’m looking forward to running a Mordheim campaign at some point.
I definitely think they could have had more group party sheets. Five doesn’t seem like enough.
The dice actually make a lot of sense to me. I think it’s cool that complications can be added even if things go well for you. If you attack someone and succeed at hitting them, but then get a “bane,” you can come up with something, such as the sword getting stuck in their wound.
Speaking of wounds, I also really like the critical wounds rules. They seem like they have the opportunity to make combat pretty brutal, with long lasting effects.
I still need to go over the rules a little more, I think. They’re a bit different than anything I’ve experienced before, and I think I may simply need to do some see-by-playing to know what the hell is going on here.
And for the record: No, it’s not a board game, Jeff and Zach.
