Happy St. Patrick’s Week, everybody! Hope you celebrated Pi Day yesterday like we did in the Meredith household. Sorry we didn’t have a Top 5 last week, but things got hectic. But here we are again this week! Let’s dive into it.

1. Savage Potter and the Second Draft

You can click here to download the pdf. If you’re looking for an RPG to represent the universe of Harry Potter, look no further than Savage Potter and the Second Draft, a fan-made sourcebook for Savage Worlds. There’s rules for spellcraft, house sorting, even quidditch. It’s definitely worth checking out. I’m considering running a one-shot using these rules. I just need to find a group of players who all enjoy HP.

2. Amazon.com

Yeah, yeah, support your FLGS, blah, blah, blah. You all know I’m a big supporter of the local game stores. I go to them whenever I can. The truth is, Amazon is one of the best ways to fill out your gaming collection. A book that costs $40 at the game store costs a mere $20 on Amazon. I just picked up Martial Power II and PHB III on Amazon for less than $50, including shipping. Support your FLGS if possible, but if not, Amazon’s the way to go.

3. Greg the Bunny

I got this from my sister-in-law for my birthday: the complete series of Greg the Bunny. I’ve never seen the show before, but I’ve heard great things about it. I’m a couple episodes in now, and it’s hilarious. The show takes place in a world where puppets (“fabricated americans”) are real, and Greg is out of work. He convinces his roommate (Seth Green) to get him on Sweetknuckle Junction, a children’s show, directed by Eugene Levey’s character. Though it is populated by puppets, this show is definitely not for kids. As a side note, Greg the Bunny is played by Dan Milano, who is currently on the Robot Chicken D&D Podcasts.

4. Couple’s Retreat

Bridget and I watched this one on Saturday. It was a great movie, and I found it hilarious that Silk Spectre, Veronica Mars, Wes Mantooth and Tony Stark’s bodyguard all went to an island where Jango Fett is a member of the staff. If you immediately knew who all those characters are, you’re a geek. It is rife with geek culture actors. But watch it with a woman. It’s a bit of a chick flick, though there are plenty of things for guys (such as the aforementioned Silk Spectre and Veronica Mars in bikinis). Check it out.

5. Hugo Weaving as Red Skull

Rumor has it that Hugo Weaving will be filling the shoes of a sadistic Nazi supervillain in the upcoming Captain America movie. I think Hugo Weaving has made it his goal to be immortalized in geek culture, fitting himself into any franchise possible. From Agent Smith in the Matrix trilogy, to Elrond in Lord of the Rings; from Megatron in Transformers to this new role, he’s everywhere. Not that I think it’s a bad thing. I could listen to this guy read the phone book and be fascinated. He’s a great actor, and he’s got the chops to make Red Skull truly frightening. Now we just need to see who’s playing Captain America. My vote’s on either Ryan McPartlin or Chris Pine.
