My birthday’s coming up…

…mom and dad. I know you read the blog, so here’s my request: I’d like a subscription to Dungeons & Dragons Insider. I’ll even provide you with the link here. I don’t even need the 1 year subscription. The three month would be fine. Now, it should be noted that yesterday I had 184 unique visitors come see my site, and that number only rises each day.
What does this mean for you? It means that, come March 10, at least 200 people will see just how much you two love me.
What benefits will you see from me getting a subscription? Well, you two enjoy reading the site, and you’ll recieve better content here as I am able to talk about all the great features on D&D Insider, such as the D&D Character Builder, the Adventure Tools as well as subscriptions to both Dragon and Dungeon magazines.
I have a fan base, and I’m not afraid to use it!

My firecracker chicken just about came out my nose! Your dad and I would like to see a survey of exactly how many of your fans/followers think you really need this subscription. I was just getting ready to mail your birthday gift of new jockey shorts, white athletic socks and contact lens solution, but if your fans think that their world would be a better place if YOU have such a subscription, then perhaps we should consider it. For the good of the gaming world.
Oh, I’ll get you a survey.
For the good of the gaming world.
I, for one, think that a subscription to D&D Insider is totally worth it. The subscriber gets a ton of information and tools at their disposal. All of the new rules, monsters, items, etc get updated each month. The Character Builder is great for updating and tracking characters. I ran a D&D 101 event last week and was able to pregenerate 30 characters for the attendees in about two hours. Combined with file-sharing services (like a shared folder on a LAN or DropBox) it allows all of my players to have access to all the characters. So if case someone cannot make a game on late notice, one of the others just opens up the character and prints a copy of the character sheet.
DMs also get an awesome tool. The Encounter Builder is fantastic for creating your own monsters and scaling or modifying the existing baddies. Interestingly, I’ll be using it to scale a mount for a character in my game. They ended up with a war boar for a reward in Thunderspire Labyrinth. The Dwarven wizard plans on training it as a mount for future battles. The Encounter Builder lets me quickly scale the boar up in level to keep up with the PCs. It’s quick and easy to put together entire encounters then print the stat blocks for each monster. That, in turn, makes combat go faster because the DM isn’t constantly flipping pages in the books.

Let it be known that we love you 6X more than you thought we did! Were you underestimating us, or just our love for you? Happy Birthday.
I guess I just underestimated your love. Thanks, mom.
