Stealing Ideas: New Moon

Okay, I admit it: I saw the new Twilight movie: New Moon. The movie overall wasn’t bad, and was ripe for the picking in stealing elements to insert into your campaign. Two ideas in particular stood out.

First off, there is a renaissance-style city in which the population dresses in red robes once a year and has a celebration as the anniversary of vampires being banished from  the city a few hundred years back.

Here is my idea:

The city of Turion was once a city held captive by a powerful family of vampires and their thrall. After generations of rebellion and guerilla tactics, the city finally drove the vampires from the city, banishing them forever. Or so they thought. One of the minor vampire houses fled to the sewers, where they waited for five generations, building secret power beneath the city. Every year, the city holds a celebration to celebrate the destruction of vampires. What better time to finally show their power and take back over the city than on so ironic a day? It is on this day the adventurers enter the city, as everyone’s red cloaks are pulled out of trunks after a year in storage. The heroes will have to combat the vampire menace that threatens to conquer the city.

There was also some very cool stuff with werewolves, in which a group of young men in town are a pack of werewolves, whose job is to protect the town from the vampire threat. Another perfect opportunity for adventure.

In a city on the border of the Eldeen Reaches in Eberron (or on the edge of the Cloak Wood in Forgotten Realms) a secret cult of werewolves arise every generation to defend the town in secret. Trained in the primal arts, these druids, shamans and wardens defend the town in secret, the villagers never knowing who they are. But what is so important about this town that it needs defending? What could be under the protection of the Wyrd Brotherhood?

Anyway, just a few ideas I had when watching the film.
