It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a Grue.

I’m not sure how many of you out there played any text-based games when you were younger. Though I’m only 24, my dad taught me well, raising me up on the Infocom games such as Zork, Enchanter, Suspect, Witness, Ballyhoo, and of course, Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. It had to have been my first introduction to roleplaying, thinking how my character would think, figuring out puzzles, drawing out maps of the locations on graph paper…

Imagine my surprise when I discovered that Zork had returned as a browser-based massive multiplayer RPG “Legends of Zork“. Now, it’s no Zork. In fact, it’s basically like most browser-based RPGs out there. But it still has the sense of humor that Zork has, and it’s sure to keep me occupied for a while.

It’s also free. I encourage everyone to sign up. I’m getting a kick out of it. I even formed a guild for the RPG Bloggers Network called “RPGBN Slayers“. If you’re looking for my character, his name is Arthur Wiggam, and he is a Level 4 Traveling Salesman. his picture is above.

New interest in this has sparked a general interest in the Zork universe, wondering what an RPG of Zork would look like. Is there a Zork RPG out there? If so, where can I get it?

Hope to see you there! Message me if you join!

Right after Legends of Zork was released, I started working on a tabletop adaptation of it. I gave up pretty quickly, but now I think I might get back to working on it.
