Critical Failure

Last night was a gaming critical failure. For the life of me I could not roll anything above a 3. It was miserable. I would charge in or fey step and it wouldn’t matter because I couldn’t hit anything! More than once I had to take damage from my own fireball because I got too close. It was just one of those incredibly horrific gaming nights. It didn’t help that our game from last week was pretty much the same for me.
I’m in a dice rolling slump and it’s awful.
My character is very low on charisma, chosen intentionally by me to be my low score. She’s not much of a talker either and last night was a lot of negotiations and bartering. To be honest about half way through I sort of gave up and cleaned the kitchen. Now, mind you the dining table is right next to my sink so I could still hear everything and participate when it was my turn but I just felt disengaged. It might have been the dice, it might have just been my mood or it could be the yucky cold I’ve got but nonetheless I am hoping for an about face next week!
I am hoping and praying that next time the dice are a little more in my favor and I can throw myself back in 110%
What about you? How do you get yourself back in the swing after a couple of weeks of defeat?

If it is a dice thing, I tend to cycle sets by how they have been rolling. I have known people to destroy dice with hammers or run over their minis or find other strange and curious ways to end their jinx.
I don’t think about rolling ever…whether the numbers are good or bad…I only remember when my dice treat me nicely and use those dice whenever I feel like it…rolling without thinking seems to work for me considering how ridiculously often I crit against my players and DMs…
I dunno…I think putting too much hope or weight into die rolls makes them roll poorly…but bleh…I maintain superstition regardless of the situation…
Dice rolls aren’t really random. Check your dice: if they have rounded edges or are otherwise physically marred, it’s likely they’ll favor certain sides over others. If it’s just one session where your dice seem cursed, it’s probably bad luck and not physics. If the bad luck streak goes on for several sessions, though, you may want to try a new set of dice.
You don’t need to go crazy with it, but look for dice made out of hard plastic, the “sharper” the edges the better. Painted numbers tend to roll more fair than carved numbers — but the paint can come off. If you can find dice where the carving was filled back in with a different color plastic/resin, though, those are likely the fairest dice you’ll find.
Of course, there’s something to be said for dice that are biased in your favor… (and you can always try to sneak the bad-luck die to your DM)
