Liquid Gaming

I know there are a variety of “food gamers” out there.  There are some of you who are Cheetos and Mt. Dew Players.  Some are Pretzle People.  Some are all about the granola.  Personally, I am a Liquid Gamer.

What does this mean?  This means that if you are like me you probably enjoy a drink or two during the game.  Now, while I do enjoy having a drink it does not mean I am slobbering, falling over and not participating in the game.  Perhaps the only time that should happen would be if it was a one shot game and everyone was playing Kobolds.  Oh yeah and everyone else was doing it too.

Our group consists of different “food gamers”.  We have a Baked Goods Gamer.  Usually I make stuff and he eats it ;) Then we have the Cheetos and Mt. Dew Gamer and then my husband and I are the Liquid Gamers.  I have no problem with the variation in our food/drink styles and as far as I know none of the other adventurers do either.  Often times someone will bring something with a liquid quality to share.

You see, we get to play once a week on a late Friday night and only after the baby goes to bed…. So, once Good Night Moon is done… it’s a little more Hello Martini.

And if you do decide to do a one shot drunken Kobold game then swing by our new page, aptly titled, Roll For Drunk.  There you will be privy to the ALL NEW and OFFICIAL Dice Monkey D&D Drinking Game.  It was a lovely little drinking game created by yours truly… and the husband; of course!

I also discovered the wonders of liquid gaming on Friday. While everyone was distracted with the PHB, I would slip into the kitchen and pour a little triple-distilled 100 proof vodka into my orchard peach punch. Mmmmm…

I’ve got to say, it helped. I loosened up, relaxed and just went with it. I don’t think it impeded my gaming at all, and don’t even think that anyone necessarily even noticed. You’d have to ask them, though. So, I must say, I heartily agree with Bridget.

Its scary how we explore similar things over the blogsphere.

Here are the Drunken D&D rules we wrote a few months ago and that we played in our Hotel room at Gen Con:

Our regular Wednesday night gaming group used to go to the local pub afterwards until it occurred to us that we could bring the beer to the game. A couple of beers each over a five-hour session isn’t going to make a serious impact on the quality of play, and now our games can run longer as well.

As the years have gone by, though, there has been some serious “gluttony creep”. We started simply by ordering Chinese food, and then I started bringing gummi worms and chocolate-covered macadamia nuts. Another person brings the beer, and now we’ve started eating chips and salsa later on in the session as well.

Thank goodness no one in the gaming group bakes, or we’d all be done for.

When we get together to game every other week, one member of the group brings their favorite drink to share with everyone. It’s never enough for anyone to get drunk, but it sure makes it nice to have a beer, or whatever was brought, or two while GMing. The host of the game always provides a variety of sodas to drink.

We sometimes chip in on pizza, Chinese, or Indian and I always bring the popcorn.
