Hey everyone, this is Dice Monkey’s brother, the Dug-like, Game Gorilla.
I have a short entry to offer you all.

I am a game designer. I won’t say amateur, because, in my own opinion, I’m pretty good; just not published yet (That’s takes money, or Han Solo’s luck [DC22]).

I have a small challenge for you: Become Your Own Game Designer.

This is how I came up with my most recent game idea. First, get a starter concept to run with.  An example of this is Gears. From gears, over night, I came with an entire game.  Granted that while the game now only contains a gear ‘attribute’  it still has a strong gear appearance on the table. And now, its 2nd incarnation is becoming Hex based.

Where am I going with this? Take your idea and run with it.  Figure out a game based on some of the suggestions below.   Make it work.   Once you get it working you may notice that it’s overly complicated.   If that’s the case work on simplifying it to the point of child’s play.   Then take the basic idea and make it so that it is only ¼ of your game. Come up with other features (water, fire etc.) and fill the rest of your game, but keep the idea within the “theme” mentality.
I’ve done this design concept with two games now and it works great.

Now’s its your turn.
Here are some starter ideas:
-Gears
-Dominoes
-Dawn
-Chain Mail
-Jester
-Prom
-Blood.
There you go. Now make your game, play test it, and revamp it. Maybe I’ll get the assist on your Luck roll when you become famous.
Good luck.
-Game Gorilla
